Lent Sermon Series
Last Wednesday, we began the season of Lent, a six week time of preparation before Easter characterized by devotion to spiritual disciplines, particularly worship, prayer, and service/giving. During Lent, we learn from Jesus how to live as disciples of Christ so that we can share new life through him (which we celebrate at Easter). Pastor Christie will be preaching on the lessons Jesus teaches through the parables about “All We Ever Needed to Know” to be faithful disciples. We hope you will join us as we learn from Christ and one another in the coming weeks!
Lent Book Study – The Christian Atheist
During Lent, on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., we will have a book study on The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but Living as if He Doesn’t Exist by Craig Groeschel. This is an excellent, accessible book that will help us examine our own spiritual health and practices and move toward living a more authentic, God-honoring life. The small group time will include discussion questions, but there will be personal preparation (“homework”) required during the week. We look forward to growing in Christ together!
40 Days of Giving
One of the core spiritual disciplines of Lent is giving or service. This Lent, we are encouraging everyone in the congregation to participate in “40 Days of Giving” by donating one food item each day for each member of your household to benefit the Huntsville Assistance Program food pantry. Shelf stable food or personal items are requested – canned goods, peanut butter, personal hygiene items (shampoo, diapers, feminine products, etc.), boxed mixes, etc. Please gather your items during the week (Monday – Saturday) in a box or bag and bring them to worship on Sunday to donate each week. If you are unable to attend worship on Sundays, but still wish to participate, please contact the church office so that we can arrange to pick up your items each week.
